A Reading by Mark Doty & Lina María Ferreira Cabeza-Vanegas
On October 5, 2017, Mark Doty and Lina María Ferreira Cabeza-Vanegas read at the James Branch Cabell Library as a part of Virginia Commonwealth University’s Visiting Writers Series. Mark Doty is the author of nine books of poems, including the National Book Award winner Fire to Fire: New and Selected Poems (HarperCollins, 2008). Lina María Ferreira Cabeza-Vanegas holds two MFAs from the University of Iowa, in nonfiction writing and literary translation. She is the author of Drown/Sever/Sing (Anomalous Press, 2015) and Don’t Come Back (Mad River Books, 2017).
Mark Doty is the author of eight books of poetry, most recently Fire to Fire: New and Selected Poems (2008), School of the Arts (2005), and Source: Poems (2001), all from HarperCollins Publishers. The most recent of his five collections of nonfiction prose, Dog Years (HarperCollins, 2007), was a New York Times bestseller and winner of the Stonewall Award from the American Library Association. His work has won many additional awards, including the National Book Critics Circle Award, the Bingham Poetry Prize, the Los Angeles Times Book Prize, a Whiting Writers Award, and Britain’s T. S. Eliot Prize from the Poetry Book Society, which he received for his earlier collection My Alexandria (University of Illinois Press, 1993), selected by Philip Levine for the National Poetry Series. Doty currently teaches at the University of Houston, and divides his time between Houston and Provincetown, Massachusetts.
