On February 13, 2020, Emily Nemens, winner of the Rebecca Mitchell Tarumoto Short Fiction Prize, read from her award-winning short story, “After Incus,” which was published in Blackbird v17n1. Joining her as a special reader was Pulitzer Prize finalist Christine Schutt, who read from her short story collection Pure Hollywood . The evening reading was presented as part of the VCU Visiting Writers Series.
Emily Nemens is the author of two chapbooks, most recently the cross-genre project Butcher Papers (Sibling Rivalry Press, 2014). Her work has appeared or is forthcoming in The Gettysburg Review , n+1 , Los Angeles Review of Books , and The Iowa Review . She has received scholarships to attend the Disquiet International Literary Program in Lisbon, the Sewanee Writers’ Conference, and TENT: Creative Writing at the Yiddish Book Center.
