LEE SMITH
Lee Smith’s new novel On Agate Hill , appeared fall 2006 from Algonquin Books of Chapel Hill. She is the author of nine previous novels from Putnam including, Oral History (1983) , Fair and Tender Ladies (1988), The Devil’s Dream (1992) , and Saving Grace (1995), as well as three collections of short stories. Her ninth novel, The Last Girls (Algonquin, 2002), was a New York Times bestseller as well as co-winner of the Southern Book Critics Circle Award. She is a member of the Fellowship of Southern Writers and the recipient of an Academy Award in Fiction from the American Academy of Arts and Letters in 1999. Smith is a graduate of St. Catherine’s School and Hollins College. She lives in Hillsborough, North Carolina.
